| Abstract | Point shapefile provides the location and subsequent link to images of railroad station plats. Data contain information about the railroad ownership, roll numbers, sheet numbers and file names of the images. | |||
| Purpose | The data set was created to improve accessibility to the railroad station plat map images. The point locations are used within a spatial index to simply the finding, viewing, and downloading of railroad station plat map images. This data set does not include images of the railroad station plats. | |||

| Currentness Reference | The time period of the image content ranges between 1918 and 1974. The Minnesota Department of Transportation received the maps from the Railroad and Warehouse Commission in 1974. The conversion of the railroad plat maps from paper to electronic form and the work required create a corresponding data point by digitizing each plat location were completed in 2004. | |||

| Attribute Accuracy | An extensive quality assurance/quality control process was applied to assure that the correct attributes were linked to the correct point and that the attribute naming was correct. | |||

| Horizontal Positional Accuracy | The shapefile accurately represents the center points of the station plat images however, the image centerline, although generally accurate to within 15 meters, may be as much as 60 meters off from the data point in some areas. | |||

| Lineage | The point shapefile was created under contract with St. Cloud State University, Spatial Analysis Center. Each point was labeled with the name of the corresponding image it represents. For this project all the station plats in the collection were scanned. The maps have the following data relative to the railroad Right of Way: land lines (e.g. section lines, quarter lines and sixteenth lines), centerline alignment including curve data used to define the Right of Way, land ties (e.g. distances and angles between the centerline and land lines) and the Right of Way width. Some of MnDOT's station plat maps can be considered 'Track Maps'. While few in number and total track coverage in Minnesota, these Track Maps show the layout and detail of track structures, especially where there are multiple tracks. | |||
